Nokia Releasing Microsoft Windows Tablet PC

With the market for tablet PCs soaring, it should come as no surprise that Finnish phone maker Nokia is planning on getting into it with a Windows 8 tablet. The head of Nokia France, Paul Amsellem, stated: “In June, 2012 we will have a tablet running Windows 8.” Representatives for Nokia have yet to refute or confirm it. Nokia is currently one of the few big-name manufacturers of electronics that have not yet released a tablet.

The CEO of Nokia, Stephen Elop, did not fail to mention how the upcoming Windows 8 operating system and the newly launched Lumia Windows phone products were similar. He also made the connection between being able to sync the information on the tablet easily with that on your computer.

This information also gives consumers a clue about when they can expect to see the Windows 8 operating system. While Microsoft has hinted at a Fall 2012 release, they have yet to give an exact date. Since Windows 8 hasn’t yet been released, even for beta testing, the question arises about how viable a tablet release so soon after the operating system is finalized would be. Nokia may be getting a sneak peek at Windows 8 due to its partnership with Microsoft, but no details have been published as of yet and we can only expect to see more updates in the future as they are released.

The new Windows 8 tablet isn’t the only thing that Nokia has in place for the future. As a follow-up to their existing Lumia 800 phone, which is the first released after they partnered up with Microsoft, they plan on releasing a “series 7” phone to build on the basic framework of the Lumia 800.

The Lumia has a few shortcomings that make it lower on the totem pole than some other phones currently on the market, with a lack of a front-facing camera, no support for the 4G network, a single-core processor and a meager 512 MB of RAM. It was just released in Europe and is primarily an attempt to secure the majority of the French market, specifically those who have yet to purchase a smartphone.

Tablet PCs are certainly not going anywhere and competition is fierce to secure a market share.
