HTC One Half-Way to KitKat Break
Android KitKat rolled out earlier this year and the majority of users are still waiting for an upgrade. As of December 2nd numbers, only 1.1% of Android Devices accessing the Google PlayStore were using KitKat. Upgrading is a multi-step process and HTC is showing users the update status of the KitKat for their HTC One phone. Mobile carriers in the United States have not pushed out an upgrade for KitKat for the HTC One but HTC says that the process is about half ware complete. The five part process includes:
- Evaluation
- Development
- Integration
- Certification
- Pusho-to-Customer
The process includes work by the manufacturers, and the mobile carriers all working together for those that have the phone can use it. Once HTC received the Android KitKat from Google they then tailor it to work with the HTC One. The mobile carriers then tailor the altered HTC KitKat to work with their customers. That is why some other versions of the HTC One already have KitKat installed. HTC One phones that are unlocked, HTC One Developer Additions and HTC One Google Addition all have KitKat installed because they have did not have to wait on a mobile carrier. Other HTC device current operating systems are listing on the page, but they do show an indication of being updated to Android KitKat. This transparency shows HTC customers that they have done their part and that the wait is more on the side of the carrier than on the manufacturer.
