HP Windows Based Tablet PC

HP has long been a big player in the business desktop industry, and while they have already made two sleeper tablets, they are coming out with their third model. Labeled the “Slate 2,” this tablet runs Windows OS and, while similar to other tablets, HP keeps with its roots and makes a tablet that is meant more for businesses and professionals. The hardware is actually pretty impressive, and some consumers may find it rather useful.

The new HP tablet is coming out with an initial price of $700, which is actually $100 cheaper than their last tablet. This price is going to keep most people from buying this model, but that is one of the reasons why it is made for professionals who can afford this device. Most of the markets for this include retail businesses, government, education, and the medical industry.

Weight wise, the Slate 2 is about 1.5 pounds and it comes with an 8.9 inch touchscreen. If you don’t like using your fingers, you can also use the stylus. When it comes to the OS, the Slate 2 runs on Windows 7, like all the other HP tablets. The battery life is measured at a six hour average, and the hard drive automatically encrypts all held data.

The processor is the Atom Z670, and it comes with a pretty good speed: 1.5 GHz. When it comes to RAM, you are getting 2 GB, which isn’t bad among the tablet market. There is also a 3 megapixel camera and a 64 GB hard drive, which offers you some pretty sizable storage. One USB port is available, which should be enough for the intended users when they are running around, but some consumers may find that a single USB port may not be enough. In the tablet market, HP is not being too innovative. The tablet itself looks nearly identical to so many other tablets, and the hardware is nothing new. Everything in the Slate 2 was available in the Slate 1. Their other tablet was also basically the same, and all three run Windows 7.

When it comes to the future, HP says it will continue making tablets, hopefully, the new ones are a bit more innovative. Their next model is planned for when Windows 8 is out, and they also plan to do some work with WebOS. As a latecomer in the tablet party, HP makes a tablet with some good hardware, but if it wants to survive it needs to differentiate itself from the other Windows tablets.
