Google Tracking Your Android Device ‘s Location

Quartz made the discovery that even when a user had their device location sharing disable, Google was still gather approximate location information from the user’s phone using pings from nearby search towers. Although Google’s user agreement does say that they do gather location information from the user, most individuals assume that nothing is being collected when the location information is disabled. According to Google they were not tracking the user for nefarious reason, but were just trying to make it easier and simpler for users to obtain push-notifications. These notifications are sent to the user’s phones automatically. When they were contacted by Quartz, they acknowledge that they were tracking users, but promised that the practice will stop. It is not clear how long the practice of collecting location information from their users if they had not been confronted with the truth.
