Android Operating System
Android is an operating system created by Google originally designed to be used for smartphones, but has since expanded to computer tablets as well. The Android’s leading competitor is the iPhone, which runs the iOS operating system. Both systems come with many features, however the Android system is considered superior for several reasons.
Unlike iOS, the Android operating system is designed for multitasking and customization. The biggest example of this is that Android platform is open source, allowing computer savvy smartphone or tablet users to hack and modify their devices freely. Android phones also come with a wide range of widgets to choose from, including everything from weather to sports headlines and everything in between. These widgets can be placed directly on your devices homepage in any order you want. This means that, with one press of a button, you can see the time, news headlines, sports headlines, weather report, social networking streams and more.
Android users also have access to the Android Market Place, a place where users can search for and download a wide variety of applications. There are apps for just about everything imaginable, but some of the most popular include MapQuest, GasBuddy, Pandora Radio and Angry Birds. Simply put, whether you’re looking for something useful, like the turn-by-turn GPS that Mapquest gives you, or some fun, like a radio you can customize to fit your style, and Android operating system has it.
Another huge benefit to owning an Android is that you can choice the type of phone and carrier you have. For example, iOS only runs on AT&T. That may be great if you’re already using AT&T, but where does that leave all the Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and all the other users? Fortunately, the Android platform doesn’t believe you should have to switch carriers just to use a smartphone. This comes with the added bonus of not having to stay with a carrier you don’t like just because you like your phone’s features
But there is one thing that simply takes the cake and that’s Flash. Odds are, if you’re seeing something on a website move, it’s done with flash. The Android operating system supports this while it’s leading competitor does not, and will not. This means that if you want to use a web browser on your phone, you’ll need an Android. Want to watch a video on Youtube.com? You’ll need an Android. Want to do just about anything else on the web? Android is the best way to go.
